Tumor Chapter Two is LIVE!

Hey folks,It's been an amazing couple of weeks over here at Hoarse and Buggy Central. First, was the near instantaneous sell out of the Tumor Ashcan at San Diego Comic-Con. Thank you all so much for coming out and supporting the book!

Secondly, through a strange twist of fate, a tv show I worked on briefly last year was nominated for an Emmy Award, and, yours truly was one of the credited writers, meaning I can now introduce myself as Emmy Award Nominee Joshua Hale Fialkov. I expect each of you to do the same.

Third, Tumor - Chapter One was a huge hit on Amazon! It made it all the way up to #6 out of all graphic novels on Amazon. Not just digital, ALL graphic novels. I think we were even beating DC's super huge Final Crisis for a while.

Which brings me to the last quick news, which is that you can now purchase Chapter Two of Tumor on Amazon for a measly dollar. It's available right now for your Kindle, iPhone, or iPod Touch. Every purchase is showing Amazon that we're a market that matters and that they need to actively serve with their devices, so, please, if not for me, then for the future of comics, go check out the book. You can do so here:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002J256D8?tag=joshuahalefia-20&camp=213381&creative=390973&linkCode=as4&creativeASIN=B002J256D8&adid=02NYEV9NCP1J78TB2Z77&

Again, thank you all for your continued support, and for helping to spread the word!

Thanks!

Outlaw Territory Hits Stores This Week!

Hey gang, This week sees the release of the massive Outlaw Territory western anthology from Image Comics. I was honored to be a part of this big ol' book put together by the mighty Michael Woods. You can find out more about the book at the blog located here: http://outlawterritoryanthology.blogspot.com/ I'm in some pretty damn respectable company, and I'm immensely proud of how my story (with amazing art by Christie Tseng) turned out.

In other news, Noel and I will have a huge announcement about our next book come Comic-Con next month, as well as hopefully some news about Elk's Run's next iteration. As always, feel free to follow me at my blog, on Facebook, or on Twitter for more up to date and less newsworthy bites. Addresses below.

Writing with Confidence

So, this has more to do with me saying my own thoughts out loud (in public) than being of any practical use to anybody other than me. I've been writing professionally for coming on 8 years. It's been my primary means of support for about four of those years. In all of that time, the thing that tends to bog me down, get in the way of trying new things, and generally stand in my way is mostly me. I've had some bad experiences. Everything from writing partners who treat me as a junior member to writing partners who barely bother to wake up, to those around me belittling what I know I'm here to do. But, I've also had unprecedented support. From my friends, my wife, my agent, my peers, and my fans. Hell, the devotion and support my wife shows me in every ridiculous endeavor I throw myself into would be more than enough for me, but, to have all of you great people standing there cheering me makes even the hardest day worth while. So, the good sort of cancels out the bad (no matter how much I like to bitch about the bad... c'mon, everybody loves a good story about a douchebag!)

But still, with all of that, the one thing I constantly have to fight, is my own confidence. Knowing that I do know what I'm doing, and that I can do what I do well. Last year was a tough year for me creatively, despite the huge amount of output I had. Some of the problems with the work was my fault, some was due to outside forces. But every single one should've been combated with the fact that about my work, and what I'm trying to do, I'm the expert. Nobody knows how to do what I do better than me.

I don't mean that in a broad, "I'm the greatest writer ever" sense. I mean that I'm the greatest writer who is me ever. Despite the poor sentence construction of that last sentence. What I do isn't for everybody, and, judging by the sales on some of my creator owned work in the past, it may in fact be for nobody. But, I can be remarkably proud of just about everything I've ever done.

I've rid myself of many of the toxic people and situations that polluted a lot of my work last year, and, for the past few weeks have been working only on my own work. Virtually no work for hire. Just my new graphic novel with Noel, my young adult fantasy novel, and a few pitches for projects that I desperately love. I've put on hold a few things that I'm excited about, but have less of a handle on to focus on the three or four things that make me deliriously happy at the thought of them happening.

With the graphic novel's new publisher doing some amazing prep work, some genuine passion from a few Hollywood folk on the novel, and everybody rooting for me on each of the projects I'm working on, I finally feel like I'm getting my shot to do what I was meant to do.

And, for a change, I'm considerably less worried about blowing it.

Free Comic Book Day!

ComicVine on Cyblade #3

Early Review/Preview Cyblade #3 -There is something about this Cyblade series. I think it's the combination that she can majorly kick ass yet she is also vulnerable at times. Seeing her fight for her freedom early in her career has been interesting and entertaining. There's already been tons of comparisons to Jennifer Garner's "Alias." I do think that is part of the charm. Cyblade is like "Alias" but times 10. Reading through the issues, you can almost feel it as a live action feature.

Thanks for the kind words fellas!

Saturday Feb 7th 10 - 11:30 - Top Cow Productions Signing 2 - 3 - Harris Comics Signing

Sunday Feb 8th 3 - 4 - Harris Comics Signing

I may be adding some stuff, but that's what I got for right now.

Also, while I have you, I'm going to be hosting a bunch of panels at Gallifrey One, better known as the U.S.A.'s only Doctor Who convention.  All kinds of awesome Doctor Who related special guests (and even pal-o-mine Tony Lee!), and a whole lot of fun guaranteed.  More info available here: http://www.gallifreyone.com/gallifrey.php

And that's that.  See you guys next week!

Happy Holidays

Hey gang,It's been a nice relaxing couple of weeks since wrapping things up on LG15. I've gotten to catch up on the past six months worth of movies, finish up some projects that had been anxiously awaiting my attention, and spend some quality time with the wife.

I've got some really cool stuff on tap for 2009, most of which I can't talk about yet, but, I do promise you'll get to see much more comics work from me than you did in 2008 (which, considering the sheer amount of stuff that came out this year seems like a big challenge.)

So, thank you for your kindness, support, love, and proselytizing for the church of Josh.

Happy Holidays,

The Resistance Ep 10 and Li'l Firebreather

Hey guys,Episode 10 of LG15: The Resistance rolled out today, and, as per usual, is available at www.lg15.com, www.youtube.com, www.hulu.com, et al. The last few episodes are doozies, so, if you haven't been watching, get to it. You're breaking Papa Josh's heart.

Also of note (and forgotten by me last week) was the arrival of Firebreather #3 from Image Comics and superstar creators Phil Hester and Andy Kuhn. Now, as if the fact that it's easily one of the best superhero books on the stands wasn't quite enough for you, it has yet another dose of Fleecs and Fialkov fun. I kid you not, Tony Fleecs is going to take this industry by storm one day, and you could say you've been on board since the beginning.

Or just lie about it. Either way. The book should be at your local comic shop, under Image Comics. If it's not, YELL AT THEM TO ORDER IT!

That's all the that that there is. Thanks for reading, and keep the faith.

AICN on The Cleaners

AICN COMICS REVIEWS Kevin Smith's BATMAN! POPEYE! James Jean's FABLES! GARFIELD MINUS GARFIELD! + MUCH MORE!!! -- Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

THE CLEANERS #1 Dark Horse Comics

This is a completely modern horror story that hinges on the age old fear of blood and the contemporary fear of what type of diseases lie within it. It’s the story of a businessman who makes a living cleaning up blood at crime scenes. He’s a private businessman who takes care of things either when the job is too complicated to alert the authorities or just too damn weird to go about conventional means to clean the mess up. The credits of this book read that it was written by Mark Wheaton (who I haven’t heard of) and “directed” by Joshua Hale Fialkov (who I do know from the phenomenal ELK’S RUN miniseries). The book really does dole out a healthy dose of paranoia and makes you feel downright ooky upon reading it. The art by Rahsan Ekedal isn’t much by way of frills, but conveys a no nonsense, in your face look at the crime scenes which dissect every corner and label the essential components of it. It makes for a CSI-like experience while reading it, a bell and whistle that adds to the story without distracting you. I’m going to follow this book closely to see where all of this blood splatter is coming from. - Bug

LG15: The Resistance Ep. 9 and more!

Hey gang,Episode 9 is live on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YdyTfPNdyo.    It'll be up on LG15.com, Myspace, and all the rest shortly.  In the meantime, please, swing by, take a look.  It's my favorite episode we've done thus far, features all the stuff shot (and edited) on our whirlwind trip to Boston, and will rock your socks right off.

Also, if you haven't yet picked up the Cleaners from Dark Horse, the internet thinks you're missing out.  We've gotten a crap load of good reviews (which I gladly accept on the back of Mr. Wheaton's hard work) all of which say "Go get it."  You can read the reviews over at the Blog at www.thefialkov.com.

Finally, the last 3 issues of my run on Vampirella are being collected in Trade Paperback in Previews RIGHT NOW.  Here's the order info: NOV08 3745    VENGEANCE OF VAMPIRELLA TP VOL 02 DRACULINAS REVENGE    SRP: $15.95     = $

I've got a couple other things in Previews too, here's the order info for those: NOV08 2298    CYBLADE #4    SRP: $2.99 NOV08 0051    CLEANERS #2 (OF 4)    SRP: $2.99 NOV08 3994    PRINCESS RESURRECTION GN VOL 05 (C: 0-1-2)    SRP: $10.95

Remember, the only way comic books survive is if you place your orders and tell people about them, so please, stop by your local comic shop and give the order numbers above.

And that's all she wrote.  Thanks for reading gang,

Weekly Comic Book Review.com on Cleaners

The Cleaners #1 (of 4) – Review « Weekly Comic Book Review.com

It can be hard to find new, original ideas in comics, but this is definitely one of them. Although this first issue was a little light on plot, Wheaton and Fialkov have still written an excellent fusion of noir and supernatural horror that loves its genres and respects their trappings. And to compliment the unique tale, Rashan Ekedal’s art is suitably detailed and gritty, proving to be the right choice to realize Wheaton and Fialkov’s story. I can’t wait to grab the next issue and see where they go with this.

Comics Should Be Good! Decleares Cleaners To Be.

Comics Should Be Good! » What I bought - 12 November 2008

Wheaton and Fialkov do a fine job taking this horrible job (well, I guess it pays well, and I suppose the people who do it enjoy it, but it still seems horrible), making it mundane, and then building a sense of horror back into it. Bellarmine and his team of co-workers make the jobs as scientific as possible, and the writers throw a lot of technical information at us that distances us from the fact that they’re cleaning up splattered blood. Then they introduce the mystery, and it’s rather terrifying. As a single issue, it’s well-constructed, giving us nice character sketches and a lot of information without being too overwhelming. Ekedal’s art, while not spectacular, is solid, especially when he has to convey the banality of suburbia juxtaposed against the presence of a lot of blood staining that banality.
